For returning families and new families, the Orange Hunt Swim Team is a great way to enjoy the summer. We welcome swimmers of all abilities between the ages of 4 and 18. Our goal is to provide kids in our community a healthy, fun filled summer activity. Kids will enjoy the camaraderie of a team sport, learn/enhance a life skill, grow their self-confidence as they see improvement with their swimming skills, gets loads of great physical activity and participate in many team social activities. Parents will enjoy knowing that their kids will be getting exercise at least 45 minutes a day, five days a week, and getting to know their neighbors. Swim team is a family affair and we hope your family joins us.
Below is the practice schedule. We encourage all swimmers to be present at as many practices and meets as possible. The best way to improve is to practice. However, we fully understand that most swimmers will miss some time during the season. This is particularly true while school is still in session and spring sports and activities are winding down. We really do want your swimmer on the team even if they will miss half of the season!

Orange Hunt has participated in the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) since 1970. For the 2018 season we will be competing in TBD. NVSL governs all of our “A meet” events. We also participate in the Springfield-Burke Developmental League for our “B meets.”
The Sharks participate in
Dual "A meets”
Developmental "B meets”
Individual Medly (IM) meet
Time Trialsare the first meet of the season. Each swimmer will compete in all 4 strokes (free, back, breast & butterfly). Some of younger swimmers don’t have a legal swim in all 4 strokes yet, and the coaches will identify which strokes they should try. Time trials establishes a swimmer base line seed time in each stroke.
The Saturday Dual meetsare referred to as “A meets” starting at 9:00am, and usually are over before by 12:00 noon. Swimmers qualify to participate in these meet based on time. The coaches will notify swimmers at practice on Friday of the participants in next day’s “A meet.” An e-mail from the team reps is also sent to the parents notifying every one of who will be participating, and the “show time.”
Monday Developmental are referred to as “B meets” starting at 6:30 pm and are usually over around 9:00pm. These meets are open to all members of the team. “Show time” is 5:30 pm at the host pool.
We will participate in several relay meets on Wednesdays (and one Sunday morning). Orange Hunt hosts the Rally in the Alley for 12 and under swimmers. We invite 5 neighborhood team. It’s a fun filled event. We will also participate in the divisional relay carnival where we send one relay team per age group to compete against teams in our NVSL division. Swimmer are selected to participate based on time. A few of our divisional relay teams may qualify to compete at the All Star Meet.
The Individual Medley (IM) meet is open to all swimmers that can legally swim all 4 strokes. In the IM the swimmer covers the four swimming styles in the following order: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle as part of one race.
Divisional Relay Carnival - This is the championship meet for relay teams in our NVSL division. We will have many volunteer opportunities for families to earn volunteer credits regardless of whether your child is swimming.
We hope you take the plunge! Become a member of the Orange Hunt Shark family this summer.
